Equality NoVa Celebrates Collaboration with Walter Reed Community Center and Arlington County to Support LGBTQ+ Community Programming

Equality NoVa is proud to celebrate our collaboration with the Walter Reed Community Center and Arlington County as we work together to create welcoming spaces, strengthen community connections, and provide meaningful opportunities for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies throughout Northern Virginia.

For decades, Equality NoVa has remained committed to improving the quality of life for the LGBTQ+ community by fostering engagement, education, and belonging. Partnerships with local organizations and community spaces are essential to ensuring that every person has access to inclusive environments where they can connect, learn, and celebrate who they are.

In celebration of Pride Month 2026, Equality NoVa will be partnering with the Walter Reed Community Center to support an LGBTQ+ Movie Night, bringing community members together through the power of storytelling and representation. This will create a space for connection, conversation, and appreciation of LGBTQ+ stories, experiences, and voices.

We believe movies and the arts have the unique ability to bring people together. Through storytelling, we are able to explore different perspectives, build understanding, and celebrate the diverse identities and experiences that make up our LGBTQ+ community.

Bringing LGBTQ+ storytelling into community spaces, especially for older adults and the 55+ community, represents an important opportunity to celebrate visibility, history, and connection across generations. These stories remind us of the generations of LGBTQ+ individuals who paved the way, the progress that has been made, and the importance of ensuring everyone feels seen and valued.

Equality NoVa is excited to share that the Walter Reed Community Center will launch a Monthly LGBTQ+ Movie Night beginning this September. This ongoing program will provide a welcoming space for community members to gather, enjoy LGBTQ+ films, celebrate representation, and continue building meaningful connections.

Equality NoVa extends our sincere appreciation to Ken Schellenberg for his leadership and dedication in bringing this project forward. His commitment to creating opportunities for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies to connect, engage, and feel supported reflects the mission and values that guide our organization.
