Equality NoVa Connects with the Community at Alexandria Pride

Equality NoVa was proud to participate in the 9th Annual Alexandria Pride, joining more than 100 community organizations, businesses, and service providers in celebrating the LGBTQ+ community at John Carlyle Square Park. The family-friendly event brought together residents from across Northern Virginia for an afternoon of live entertainment, community resources, health services, food, and celebration.

Throughout the day, Equality NoVa had the opportunity to meet hundreds of community members, answer questions about our organization, and share the many programs and opportunities available throughout the year. We were thrilled to reconnect with familiar faces while welcoming many new supporters who were learning about Equality NoVa for the first time.

Our volunteers highlighted several of our signature initiatives, including the Equality NoVa Scholarship Program, which supports graduating high school seniors who have demonstrated leadership, service, and a commitment to advancing equality. We also shared information about our monthly community book club, volunteer service projects, networking opportunities, and other programs designed to strengthen and connect the LGBTQ+ community across Northern Virginia.

Community events like Alexandria Pride remind us why visibility and engagement matter. Pride is not only a celebration of identity, but also an opportunity to build relationships, foster understanding, and ensure that every LGBTQ+ person knows they have a place where they are welcomed, respected, and supported.

Being present at Alexandria Pride allowed us to demonstrate that Equality NoVa is more than an organization. We are neighbors, volunteers, advocates, and friends working every day to create a stronger, more inclusive Northern Virginia. Every conversation, every new connection, and every shared story reinforces the importance of continuing our mission of service, education, advocacy, and community building.

Equality NoVa extends its sincere gratitude to the Alexandria LGBTQIA+ Task Force, the City of Alexandria, the event organizers, volunteers, exhibitors, sponsors, and everyone who made this year's Pride celebration such a tremendous success. We also thank every individual who stopped by our booth, shared their experiences, expressed interest in volunteering, or simply came by to say hello.

As we continue expanding our programs and outreach, we invite members of the community to stay connected, participate in our events, volunteer with us, and help us build a future where every LGBTQ+ person in Northern Virginia feels seen, valued, and empowered.
